Inclusive and Sustainable Systems

Sustainable Systems

‘As economic growth accelerates, the signals are getting clearer: the Earth’s natural resources and ecosystems will not support ‘business as usual’ for much longer’- Cambridge Institute of Business Leadership.

Whilst the traditional business models working around the world have created economic growth and wealth – they have not been able to address the issues of extreme poverty, inequality and the overall impact on the environment. Moving towards a path for sustainable development requires that we urgently reduce our ecological footprint by changing the way we produce and consume; through efficient management of our shared natural resources and toxic waste and pollutants.

CERB’s goal for ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Systems’ is to advance solutions for achieving economic growth which on one hand looks at improving processes and products, buildings, and energy systems that promote sustainability, and on the other hand looks at how investing can trigger an enabling  mechanism that reshapes economic and social progress in Pakistan. This requires a channeling of investment into business models which have an agenda for sustainable development.

When the discussion has moved towards investing in, measuring  and reporting on environmental, social and governance metrics, it is important to adopt  practices where companies provide a benefit to society, and where profits enable both value creation and fair and equitable compensation for natural and societal resources.

Sustainable consumption and production (SDG 12) is an integral part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  At CERB, we feel this requires a shift in consumption and production patterns that can be achieved through conducting research and development, encouraging investment by the development of indicators for measurement and reporting, and increasing local knowledge.

CERB has been working with ACCA Pakistan on advocating for ESG guidelines in Pakistan, and sharing industry best practices on SDG 12 as part of the SDG leadership programme.

CERB can assist your organization by training your management on indicators for inclusive and sustainable systems hence building capacity to update the business strategy and processes which align with global best practices. Our services page has further details on the trainings we offer.
