About

As Pakistan’s premier business body composed of the largest and most successful businesses in the country, the PBC recognized the need to share and spread the best practices on responsible business conduct. As an outreach initiative to grow the formal sector, the PBC established in 2016 a Center of Excellence in Responsible Business (CERB).

By focusing our research on the good practices of businesses in Pakistan, we highlight how practitioner companies can enable conditions which stimulate the economy while providing livelihood opportunities in a manner which is inclusive and uses resources sustainably. CERB’s provides insight and advisory on key elements of responsible business, and provides a platform for companies to network, build capacity and collaborate with peer companies.

Javeria Ameen

Javeria’s area of research covers sustainable development, business models, leadership mindsets, corporate culture, and integrated thinking. She researches and develops case studies on sustainable business practices and value creation for long-term growth.

Javeria holds a Master’s in Business Administration with majors in Marketing from the Institute of Business Management (IoBM).

Nazish Shekha

Nazish has been with CERB since 2017 and currently heads the research helm of CERB. Her role is to ensure CERB has access to evidence-based research related to responsible business on the private sector.

Nazish has an MSc in Poverty Reduction: Policy and Practice (Specialising in Natural Resource Management) from SOAS, University of London and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Sciences from King’s College London. Nazish has previously worked both in the private and development sector, including establishing a Karachi centric skill based volunteering programme and has taught subjects related to environment and sustainable development as adjunct faculty at NED, Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture and SZABIST.

Sara Laiq

Sara is responsible for leading the Inclusive Development Forum at CERB since June 2019 and is passionate about helping companies build a diverse and inclusive workforce. Before her role as Programme Manager, Sara led IFC’s first gender intervention in the Private Sector with a focus on enhancing women’s employment opportunities in Pakistan at CERB. In October 2019, Sara received a scholarship through Gates Foundation to attend the Annual SEEP Conference in Washington D.C.

Sara has a Master’s degree in Public Policy from King’s College London and was awarded a distinction for her postgraduate dissertation on ‘Barriers to Maternal Health Care in Pakistan; An Analytical Study’.

Shirin Mehri

Shirin is leading projects on family-friendly workplaces and Pakistan’s investment landscape in partnership with the IFC at the Centre of Excellence in Responsible Business. She serves as the Programme Manager – Ethics and Governance.

Shirin holds a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurial Leadership from Babson College and an undergraduate degree in Economics & Finance from SUNY Plattsburgh. Currently, Shirin volunteers as the Team Lead for Green Box and is the co-founder for Modern Mazameen. Prior to CERB, Shirin worked alongside the founders of growing social impact start-ups focused on community development in the UAE, and successfully completed projects in education in Tanzania and the United States.  Shirin belongs to Cohort IV of the Salamti Fellowship that is focused on interfaith peace and harmony.

Farwah Shariff

Farwah leads the sustainable development initiatives at CERB that pertain to environment and sustainability. As one of the SDG experts at CERB, she is involved with developing research and industry engagement on Agenda 2030. Farwah also manages parts of CERB’s external communications.

Farwah has a MSc in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida, where developed a field and experimental based thesis on “Scaling thermal traits in space and time to understand thermal niche partitioning in aquatic macroinverterbrates”. She also holds a BSc in Anthropology and Sociology from LUMS, with a thesis on “Identity, crisis, and the will to meaning”. Prior to CERB, Farwah has worked with IUCN on vulture conservation in Sindh, the regional fellowship program at Acumen, and sustainability and communications at Unilever. Farwah is a Fulbright Scholar, former DAAD exchange student, and member of the Pakistan US alumni network 2020 class on regional approaches to air quality and environment.
